CO2 lasers are cost effective and powerful lasers with very high efficiency. They are mainly used in medical applications, material processing and marking. Until recently it was difficult to deliver the laser beam to the desired location. With the special patchcord developed by LASER COMPONENTS, it is now possible to easily, and at low cost, transmit the CO2 laser light to the desired location. With a suitable fibre coupling unit, the laser light is coupled into the fibre.
The main part of the patchcord is a hollow silica waveguide with a core diameter of 500 µm, 750 µm or 1,000 µm. The fibre is protected by a metal tube which limits the bending radius and protects the fibre against breakage. The two SMA connectors on the in-coupling and out-coupling ends include zinc selenide (ZnSe) windows to protect the hollow silica waveguide against dust and moisture. The patchcord is available with a fibre that can also transmit a pilot beam.
